The many gloves of Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, is closely followed not only because of her royal husband, but because of her elegant personal style. Let us pay tribute to the new mother of Prince George Alexander Louis by taking a look at her many leather gloves, reminiscent of Ines-inspired designs!

Choosing Ines Gloves for your wedding - part 4: shoulder-high gloves

White is probably the most popular color to be associated with weddings. It's perfectly elegant and beautiful... can you really pair a white leather glove with a white wedding dress?? With Ines, of course, you can! If you would rather not, we have just the glove for you!

Round top shoulder-high gloves

My sensual round top shoulder-high gloves are the perfect glove for adding a touch of feminine elegance to your wedding day look. The rounded cuff of this glove is very delicate, while the thin, fitted kidskin leather looks graceful on anyone. These gloves are available in a nude color, which would only just offset the white of your wedding dress. Try these gloves with a simple gown... let these graceful gloves speak for themselves!  Share/Bookmark

Choosing Ines Gloves for your wedding - part 3: shoulder-high gloves (my nights)

Opera-length gloves first made their dramatic appearance in the pre-World War 1 era, and quickly became a symbol of feminine elegance. As this glovey trend caught on, necklines plunged, the sleeves of evening gowns grew shorter, and the gloves grew delightfully longer!

Before you slip into a pair of shoulder-high leather gloves, there are certain rules of etiquette that apply. Check out my blog posts dated 30 June and 20 July, 2013, to brush up on your long glovey etiquette before your big day.

Black shoulder-high gloves

Black leather gloves are extremely elegant, with a hint of sensuality. They are slimming, and are perhaps best for highlighting the feminine contours of the hands and arms, especially when paired with your wedding dress. Yes, black is bold... but a strapless, contemporary, and chic wedding dress with a pair of my sensual stretch leather shoulder-high gloves (in my nights) will stun your guests and make for a superb wedding day look. Choosing Ines Gloves for your wedding - part 2: past elbow gloves

It's your wedding day, and the spotlight is all on you! Choose your leather wedding gloves to define your own personal style....

Elbow-length gloves

Whether in white or black, elbow-length leather gloves will add a touch of elegance and femininity to your wedding day look. My sensual cashmere past elbow gloves (in my nights) look very dramatic when worn with a flowy, feminine wedding dress made from organza, charmeuse, or tulle. Simply stunning! Share/Bookmark

Choosing Ines Gloves for your wedding - part 1: short gloves

Your wedding is undoubtedly one of the most important and memorable days in your entire life. So much decisionmaking is involved... let me take some of the guesswork out of it by providing some useful advice on pairing your favorite Ines Gloves with your personal style of wedding dress. I hope you enjoy this first post of a 4-part blog series. Stay tuned!

Short glace gloves

Wrist-length glace gloves were in vogue in the 1950s and 1960s. White- and cream-coloured gloves were the most popular shades to wear on your wedding day. At that time, such gloves showed a young lady of proper breeding. Today, however, more and brighter colors are appearing at the altar!

My short every day glace gloves function best with a vintage-style wedding dress, no longer than tea length (falling several inches above the ankle). Share/Bookmark

Hardworking gloves...

Gloves were not always the luxurious, stylish accessories that they are now. Some of the earliest gloves were actually made of very cheap materials (such as fabric), and used by shepherds, peasants, and soldiers in their daily work!

It was at this point that gloves began to represent different social classes...

... elegant, beautiful long gloves in silk for the wealthy....

... and woolen, often tattered, half-gloves for the poor...Share/Bookmark

Ines spotlight on Canadian designers - Mackage

Canadian outerwear design label Mackage has exploded onto the Canadian fashion scene several years ago (in 2000) with some amazing new trends for keeping warm yet fashionable throughout Canada's winter months.

Canadian design team Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan are the minds behind the Mackage name. Their designs have appeared on many Hollywood celebrities too!

~ Actor Kellan Lutz of Twilight fame

Mackage is constantly evolving to invent new and different ways to keep warm in winter. My favorite part is their judicious use of leather! Impossible to resist!

A warm wool coat with leather accents, black leather leggings, and a splash of red leather glove... reminiscent of Ines' my warm silk buckle gloves. Never be afraid to match a dark color with something bright and eye-catching!

Or make your puffy winter jacket into something inviting with a pair of my leather button driving gloves! Your gloves can make a statement... even in the winter!Share/Bookmark

A glove is never just a glove...

It should not surprise you to learn that gloves aren't just for wearing... gloves speak volumes! The appearance, texture, and style of your glove speaks to your personality, personal style, and even your mood. Beyond that, a mere flick of the wrist or a slight or gentle tap of the finger can spell romance or rejection... you decide!

Here are a few glovey interpretations that have been used throughout history to seduce, summon, and entice. Try them out for yourself!

~ twirling your gloves seductively around your finger: We are being watched.
~ holding the tips of your gloves downward: I wish to be acquainted.
~ gently smoothing your gloves: I wish I were with you; I wish to speak with you.
~ holding gloves loosely in your right hand: Be content.
~ holding gloves loosely in your left hand: I am satisfied.

~ striking gloves over your hand: I am displeased.
~ tossing gloves up gently: I am engaged.
~ tapping your gloves against your chin: I love another.
~ dropping your glove: Yes
~ dropping both gloves: I love you.
~ turning the wrong side of your gloves outward: I dislike you.Share/Bookmark

Charlize Theron & Ines leather style

Hollywood actress Charlize Theron is no stranger to leather wear. She wore a smashing red leather dress from Dior at the 2011 premiere of her latest feature film Young Adult.

However, you don't need a celebrity budget or a fabulous movie premiere to pull off this so-called "fetish trend". Instead, just a few quick tips will allow you to unleash your inner wild child while keeping your leather look classy and practical...

1. Invest in versatile pieces. If this is your first venture into leather wear, it may help to begin with a few staple pieces, such as gloves, a jacket, or pants, rather than a daring leather dress. You'll be more comfortable, and eventually will work your way up to a stunner. Try a casual, rocker-chick look or use your leather piece as part of a catchy evening ensemble. Experiment... you can't go wrong with leather!

2. Cover those long legs. Well, in the winter anyway. If you do brave the elements and sport that sexy leather dress, include a pair of nude tights to keep your legs warm.

3. Add a uniquely feminine accent. For a touch of class, pair a woven, sleeveless dress with a pair of sensual long leather gloves. Or, try a fitted leather pencil skirt with a crisp white blouse for a distinctive, feminine, classy look.

It's pretty clear that Charlize is no stranger to leather, so you shouldn't be either!

Ines loves the King of Pop!!

Known worldwide as the King of Pop, Michael Jackson was an icon of music, style, dance, and entertainment. Though he is gone before his time, his unique style has made a lasting imprint on our popular culture.

Perhaps the most recognizable Michael Jackson symbol is his iconic Swarovski crystal-studded glove worn during his Victory tour in 1984. As a measure of just how strong Michael's legacy is, this very glove was sold several years ago at a Las Vegas auction for an astronomical $190,000!

Stunning... believe it or not, this glove is actually a golf glove that was modified with plenty of bling for the King himself. He wore it on his left hand...

To add your own touch of bling, try on a pair of Ines' my bling only fingers leather gloves! These gloves share the uniqueness of Michael Jackson's blingy glove and add a touch of glitter to your fashion image. Your fingers will love you!Share/Bookmark

Elegance & etiquette of shoulder-high leather gloves

Sensual, shoulder-high leather gloves can be seen on the runways year after year, representing a fashion staple. Even celebrities are wearing long leather gloves throughout the year, and not just as an accessory during an awards show. Long leather gloves are an amazingly elegant addition to a strapless or sleeveless dress, and are available in a wide array of colors. Before you slip into a pair, take a peek at the rules of etiquette to avoid any style slip-ups!

~ gloves are always carefully put on in the privacy of the home.

~ gloves need not be removing when shaking hands, in a receiving line, or when dancing.

~ though gloves may be worn while drinking, avoid spilling liquids and ruining the soft leather. Even partly removing your gloves is recommended to avoid catastrophe! If you do happen to catch a spill, feel free to check out my leather cleaning tips in an earlier post.

~ gloves are removed while eating dinner, but can be put back on immediately after.

~ when removing gloves, do not draw attention to yourself in an undue or seductive manner... unless that's your intention! Long gloves are very sensual, and removing them makes for a very tempting, seductive act! The elegance of Ines can also be captured when removing her unique gloves...

~ as a general fashion rule, the shorter the sleeve, the longer the glove. Shoulder-high leather gloves are ideally worn with a sleeveless, sexy, little black dress or evening gown.

~ to avoid a fashion faux-pas, black gloves should not be worn with light-colored clothes... black works best with dark, black, or bright colors.

~ when gloves are initially put on, the hand should be worked in from the wrist. The glove is then gradually smoothed up the arm, rather than pulled from the top. Again, this can make for a very sensual experience for both the glove wearer and the glove watcher!

Some interesting glovey words to remember...

The next time you visit the Ines Gloves' gloveshop to pick out the next addition to your glovey wardrobe, keep an eye out for these very important glove-related words...

Button length: a measurement (in inches) that specifies the length of your glove from the base of the glove thumb to the cuff of the glove.

Fourchette: a special name for the inside panel on the fingers of certain glove styles.

~ note the fourchette panels in my sensual past elbow gloves (my fire)

Perforation: the name of small holes punched in a leather glove. They are most commonly added to provide ventilation, improved grip, or esthetics. This is the case in all of Ines' perforated gloves!

~ in my man exclusive peccary leather gloves, perforations are decoratively added

Points: used to define the three lines of decorative stitching on the back of a glove.

~ 3 points are clearly visible on the back of my man cashmere gloves

Quirks: small diamond-shaped pieces of leather sewn at the base of the fingers of the most expensive gloves. They attach to the main hand of the glove to improve its fit.

~ note the presence of a diamond-shaped quirk in this peccary glove

Strap & roller: a clasp/ closure used to adjust the fit of a glove around the wrist.

~ Ines herself is creating elegance in her gloveshop

Vent: a v-shaped cut into the back or palm surface of a glove to improve glove fit around the wrist.

~ note the wrist vent in my man alpaca-lined peccary gloves

A little glovey education certainly goes a long way to understanding the elegance that goes into the design of each pair of Ines Gloves. Quality that is second-to-none!

Ines gloves in history: the symbolism of my where are my fingers gloves

Throughout history, gloves have meant much more than an article of clothing or a means of keeping your hands warm.

Up until the early 20th century, long sleeves (such as those worn above) functioned as "gloves" to keep the hands warm in many cultures... very similar to Ines' my where are my fingers gloves!

Sleeves were also used to protect the hands when carrying hot pots...

So, the next time you have a dinner party and need to take that hot roasting pan out of the oven, I probably wouldn't recommend using my where are my fingers gloves... perhaps simply stick to using oven mitts and save your Ines gloves for making a fashion statement instead of a baking statement!
