During the French Revolution (1789 - 1799), individuals wearing gloves were suspected of being members of the despised aristocracy.
In fact, the rise of Enlightenment ideals among the French populace sparked a resentment toward all things noble... the lifestyle, the money, and the privileges bestowed upon them. Fortunately for us glove and leather lovers, gloves are now more indicative of style, class, and sensuality... call it the Age of Indulgence!
